Sweetwater Camporee for Troop 81 was canceled due to poor attendance from our Scouts. We need better participation in order to Plan and Execute good activities. After spending several weeks planning and building pieces for a human sized Battleship Games, we only had three Scouts planning on attending the event. Instead we took the scouts on a 5 mile hike through Sweetwater Creek State Park. We toured the ruins of 5 story cotton mill burned by Shermans troops on their march to the sea during the Civil War. The weather was great and we even got views of the Atlanta Skyline from the ridgetop. Hamburgers and cinnamon rolls finished the evening.
Next Outing is an overnight Canoe trip down the Flint River. For this exciting excursion, we need all Scouts planning to go to be at next meeting April 9. ( NO MEETING APRIL 2 DUE TO SPRING BREAK) We have to have a accurate number so that we have seats and paddles available for all those going. Likewise, as all canoes need 2 paddlers we need even number of paddlers. We plan to leave Saturday and head to Thomason Georgia. The Scout Camp there will help us with shuttles to the put in and take out spots. The trip is 22 miles. Water is calm in this section of the river. We will camp along the riverbank.
Troop 81 is welcoming 4 new Webelos on a Crossing over ceremony at Walnut Grove Methodist Church on Saturday April 21 at 4 pm. We need as many Scouts as possible to help welcome our newest members and make them feel welcome. We may have our own welcoming ceremony at the Thompson Property later in April.
Brantley Yeater is planning an Eagle Ceremony on April 29 at 4 pm. Location and specifics to follow.
Troop 81 Scouts at St Annas are helping with flag raising on April 7 at Noon Mass. New flag poles have been erected and Father Dan wants Boy Scouts to help raise the first flags. Angela Yarman will have more info.
