Troop 81 Announcements
Next Meeting February 29 OA elections
Scouts interested in being elected into the Order of the Arrow should make every effort to attend the next meeting.
Important upcoming OA dates:
Ordeal (for newly elected members) and Spring Fellowship at Camp Rainey Mountain March 18-20
OA Conclave hosted by our lodge at Camp Rainey Mountain April 15-17
Next Camp Out March 5-6
Conyers International Horse Park or Ft Yargo
Both choices allow extension of bicycle riding for merit badge opened previously. This is last minute change due to the sudden postponement of the camporee originally scheduled for this date.
(Sweetwater Spring Camporee has been moved to April 29-May1)
Okefenokee Swamp April 1-4
We have confirmed reservations for two nights in the Swamp:
Plan to leave Friday April 1 and travel to group campsite at General Coffee State Park in Nichols Ga. About 4 hour drive from Monroe. Reservation confirmed
On Saturday drive to Stephen Foster State Park inside West entrance to Okefenokee.
We have a canoe trailer and are borrowing canoes to bring with us to avoid cost of rental.
On Saturday, we canoe to first campsite Mixons Hammock, an Island in the swamp. On Sunday we canoe to next Campsite Canal Run, also a small island, this has a shelter, both have pit toilets, both allow fires.
On Monday, we canoe back to vehicle and drive to Monroe. (264 miles, 5 hours)
This a great opportunity to see the largest swamp on the east coast 400,000 acres more than twice as big as Philmont.
Cost is $30 per person for campsites plus food- total about 50.00 each person
We must have firm commitments as reservations are nonrefundable beyond a certain date. We can have up to twenty in our group.
Please contact Scott Schorr for more info.
