Troop 81 Elections
We had multiple runoffs to arrive at our new leadership positions at last Monday's meeting. Congratulations to all the scouts who put their name into consideration. It is great to see so many scouts ready to improve their leadership skills by taking on these positions. For SPL Zack Hickman was chosen. For ASPL Daniel Yarmon was chosen, for Secretary Wesley Breedlove was reelected.
Next Outing Sweetwater Camporee April 29-May1. Scouts need to bring $15.00 check to next meeting to register. This will be at Scoutland. All SCOUTS need to bring empty milk jugs, soda bottles that can be used to make a raft for this camporee competition.
Scout Dues of $60.00 are still owed by several Scouts.
Summer Camp at Camp Rainey Mountain has been moved to July17-23. We made this switch to allow as many scouts as possible to attend. We need the first installment check of $90 to secure merit badge courses as soon as possible.

Okefenokee Trip was a great success! Led by our fearless SPL, Wesley Breedlove, our four Scouts (Austin Schorr, Ken Partain, Christopher Steele) and 4 adults powered through a 33 mile canoe journey into the East Coast's largest swamp. We camped 2 nights on platforms surrounded by miles of cypress trees, water fowl, and ever present alligators. The weather was perfect with cool nights and sunny 70 degree days. No one capsized, we ate well, and were thankful for Machete boy Ken Partain cutting a way through swamp for our canoes. What a great adventure!
OA Conclave Camp Rainey Mountain April 15-18. Hosted by Mowogo Lodge headed by Troop 81's own Christopher Steele as current lodge chief, sponsored a gathering of over 1,000 Arrowmen from throughout Georgia, Alabama at Camp Rainey Mountain. Indain dancing, drums, ceremonies, games and great fun and fellowship was had by all. Mr Thompson, Ms Elaine, Mr Steele, Mr Sewell all worked tireless to make the camp ready for this huge gathering. Austin, Matthew and Scott Schorr represented Troop81 as well.
Next Event Sweetwater Camporee April 30-May 1 Located at Scoutland, The goal of the camporee is for the scouts to build a raft entirely out of recycled materials and sail it across the lagoon. Prized for Best time, best construction, and other catagories. Registration fee is $15 dollars. All scouts asked to bring recycled bottles, jugs, 2 litters to next 2 meetings to build our raft.
Elections for SPL ASPL are to be either this next Monday April 18 or April 25 depending on turn out. Leadership is important for rank advancement. Leaders should be committed to showing up and guiding activites, especially Summer Camp.
New Summer Camp dates. Due to scheduling conflicts by several of the Scouts, The week of Summer Camp has been moved to July 17-July23. The adult leaders made this change to allow the maximum number of boys to attend Summer Camp. Not only is this camp the highlight of the year for fun and games, it is vitally important for earning merit badges essential for rank advancement. Please check these dates and commit your scout to this wonderful experience. $90 is needed immediately to secure your Scouts wished for badges.
May 15 Roswell Car show fund raiser. We plan to help set up and sell prepared food and drinks to raise money for the troop. Our troop needs additional funds to buy equipment and help offset the cost of new activities
June 10-12 Camp Rotary Water Fun Camp Out. Plan to enjoy the clear waters of Lake Hartwell. This a great time to get signed off on the swim test to allow better access to swim times at summer camp.
June 9-22 Philmont High adventure camp. Matthew, Austin and Scott Schorr, John and Lee Rowell will travel to Philmont in New Mexico with Scouts of the Northeast Georgia Council. This group has been preparing over the last 6 months with overnight hikes on the Appalacian trail at Unicoi Gap and Hikes up to Standing Indian Mountain.
