Ocoee River Rafting
The last post did not include the dates of the rafting trip which is September 12-13. That means that Mondays meeting August 31 is the last meeting before the trip as the following Monday is Labor Day. Please come prepared with Check and Release form if planning to attend. If other family members want to raft, there is a bunkhouse on sight that can be rented as well as local cabins. They would be responsible for their own reservations and housing and food.
Also for parental information, all forth coming events for the calendar year are posted on the White Board usually placed on the fireplace hearth in the Scout Hut. This can be a useful resource for Scouts who may not pay attention during weekly circle ups or may have missed meetings due to other obligations.

Ocoee River Rafting - Coming Soon!
Registration is due now! This a chartered event and non refundable deposit is required.
The Scouts of Troop 81 voted to take on the wild and wet waters of the middle section of the Ocoee river, a beautiful mountain river near the border of Tennessee. This was the site of the US Olympic white water events during the Atlanta Games in 1996.
The Outfitter is: Outdoor Adventure Rafting or OAR
Address: 629 Welcome Valley Rd, Benton, TN
Scouts must be 12 years old
Scouts must have watershoes, tennis shoes, closed toe with ankle strap to float
Cost: 35.00 (includes 5.00 camping fee)
Will plan to leave Scout Hut at 7:30 am
Three hour drive
Need to be ready at checkin at 11:15 for a 11:45 departure.
Middle Ocoee has class 3 and 4 rapids
On river time is 1 1/2-2 hour with 3 1/2 total time
Boats have a professional guide and carry 6 passengers.
All paddles, helmets, flotation devices are included.
Liability forms available online.
Floats go rain or shine, no rain refunds
Will plan to camp at the outfitters compound, 6.5 acres on the river itself.
Campground has toilets and showers and water.
Scouts will be responsible for sack lunch and patrol dinner and breakfast.
Sept 1 we must make a firm deposit for the event. Please check your schedules as we have many Scouts come to the meeting without knowing if they can participate. Bring Check and Liability form if your Scout is planning to attend. Make checks out to Troop 81.
Remember SCOUTING IS AN OUTDOOR PROGRAM. We have a number of our scouts who come to meetings, vote on the events that they want to plan, and then not show up. This really short changes what the Scout gets out of the program. Every event is important. Lately fewer than half our members have been attending these outings.
ALSO Monday is ELECTIONS for Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Scribe. A slate of candidates was put forth last meeting and each candidate will have an opportunity to speak for his position. Attendance is important.
Questions can be addressed to Scott Schorr regarding rafting.
